A Message for Those Who Rebuke the Overweight

Dear You-and-Your-Kind

Of course we and our kind love food and indulge in it, guiltily sometimes and without shame at other times.

We love food. Period.

We do not starve ourselves in front of the world to show them how important the right diet is and then go on and snack on the same things we are (apparently) astonished at while others are watching. No we don't.

We are not deliberately overweight. We did not dream of being fat or being made fun of.

Then what or who gave you the right to comment on our appearance - be it in front of us or in our absence?

Ashamed to say, it is we who unintentionally gave you the right. Many apologies for that. Sincerely.

Picture off the Internet

We let you laugh out loud and sometimes joined in the laughter ourselves. We let you pass comments that we might have smiled at despite being hurt. We know how to make fun of ourselves as well (refer to the blog URL for proof). But did you even think about your comment before passing it? Of course not. You took it upon yourself to entertain your audience... at our expense.

Coming to think of it, we do not make fun of those who are underweight or thin. Why not? We know how it feels.

Are we not trying to lose weight? Of course we are. Which is what the purpose of this blog was in the first place. It was meant for all of us who are struggling with our weights and it was meant to chronicle the journey towards becoming healthier and happier, albeit a few indulgences. 

Who does not indulge? We do and we admit it. Openly. Shamelessly even, if I might add.

You've heard of Karma, haven't you? And what about Empathy?

You never know what the Future holds for you, so think before you go on and make a sick joke about the big people.

Because the next time, we and our kind may not laugh with you.

Avoid Temptations..

Avoiding temptations of any kind when you want to lose weight is very very important..

~~5 minutes later, on phone~~

Me: "Hello Dominos, please send me a regular Farmhouse Veg Pizza with Garlic Breadsticks and Cheesy dip and a bottle of Coke"

Dominos guy: "Anything else ma'am?"

Me: "No that will be all!"

Domions guy: " Your bill is 275/- and the order will be at your place within 30 mins"

~~30 minutes later, me digging my teeth into the pizza. Bliss! :D ~~

Need to Workout ????

This being my first post, let me say something on the major factors to 'Exercise' - MOTIVATION & DETERMINATION.

Motivation is What Drives you to the gym or dance class or aerobics session etc etc

Determination on the other hand is what stays with you while 'WORKING IT OUT', I mean to do that LAST REP, to do the FINAL SET or hold on for those last 2 mins on the treadmill.

For me, another factor kicks in - VISION, It will not appeal if I cant visualize how would I look or improve my fitness after 3 or 6 months of training.

The VISION will infuse the 'Motivation' and 'Determination' to train.

So visualize before you don the training shoes !!!

Day 3 at the Gym

So, after the excruciating pain yesterday, I decided to fight pain with pain...

...and went to the gym today.

After cycling and stretches, there were new exercises to do... shoulder press, back press and the like.

*p a i n f u l*

Then, 15 minutes of the treadmill followed by 15 minutes of cross training.

Stretches again.

Anyway, today I didn't walk back home but took an auto instead.

Hungry and back home, I had rice and dal.

And...

and...

and...

...Ghee. Lots of it.

I am Shruti aka Mangu and this is my story..

I was thin and lean just a few years ago.. now I am, umm how do you say it, chubby!?! No wait, "healthy" :)

I was born as an 8 pounder, round, cute baby.. And I don't think there is any harm in being a little roundish, it just shows that you come from a khaata-peeta family! Although my mom calls me "KFC chicken legs", "Thunder Thighs" and my uncle calls me "Chubby Lubby" and several other names.. I won't call myself fat because I am not. I am just a little bit more on the heavier side! :)

I have recently developed a fond liking for Burgers! Who doesn't like burgers? Imagine a nice juicy chicken patty with a slice of cheese and some mayo.. no no EXTRA mayo and some onion rings, tomatoes (though you don't find any in an actual burger) and some lettuce leaves (which are wilted most of the times, but who cares?) all sandwiched between two pieces of a burger bun with sesame seeds on top. Ummm.. Salivating just by thinking of it! KFC, Mc Donalds.. Bring it on I say!! In the past few months, I have eaten so many burgers that now I have burgers showing up on both sides of my waist! But I still can't resist them.. So remember, if you want to locate me in a really crowded food court, just look for KFC or McD and you'll find me right there :D

I am also wife and I work from home. Work from home? Yeah, I work on my love for food :P I look for stunning recipes on the internet :D But, hey I don't do that just for myself... I research so that I can please my husband with some delicious food! See, so selfless :D

So lets see.. what all have I learnt to cook in my almost a year old marriage:

  2. Vegetable Kadhai with Cashew Nut Paste
  3. Paneer Bhurji
  4. Matar Paneer
  5. Aloo Matar
  6. Egg Biryani
  7. Chicken Curry
  8. Egg Curry
  9. Palak Paneer (With a dollop of fresh cream on top)
  10. Gobi /Mooli/ Peas/ Aloo Paratha
  11. Baingan Ka Bharta
  12. Maa Ki Daal (With extra butter)
  13. Stuffed Pomfret
  14. Prawn Curry
  15. Chicken Sukka

And the list just goes on :D

Now I know what you are thinking. All these dishes have one thing in common, CALORIES!!! But you can't deny the fact that all these dishes are mouthwatering as well :D

So in a nutshell, I am a food lover and I shall continue to develop my taste buds and cooking skills no matter how much fat I put on because at the end, all that matters is "tummy khush, toh mummy khush" :D
